“Northside P.O.W.E.R.” — People Organized to Work, Educate and Restore
Reflecting upon the fact that the numbers of hungry people have continued to increase in recent years, the board of directors of A Just Harvest decided that the organization needed to go beyond feeding people to address the root causes of hunger and poverty.
The Advocacy, Outreach and Organizing Program works to strengthen supporting relationships with community agencies and partnering organizations and provides additional support services to the community. Through its organizing table, Northside P.O.W.E.R. offers organizing training and leadership development and mobilizes the constituent base of A Just Harvest to affect change in the social and economic conditions that perpetuate poverty and hunger in the community.
Northside P.O.W.E.R. was created in 2004, as a result of a strategic planning process undertaken by A Just Harvest’s Board of Directors. Reflecting upon the fact that the numbers of hungry people have continued to increase in recent years, the board decided that the organization needed to go beyond feeding people to address the causes of hunger and poverty.
