Modern day carnaval has been a tradition stretching back to pre-emancipation in Trinidad and Tobago in the late 18th century, with roots stretching back one hundred years prior. Although there have been carnaval celebrations in the metropolitan area, there have been none consistently on Rogers Park’s Howard Street, a roadway considered to be a cultural vein in the African Caribbean community.

As you step onto Howard Street this Saturday, prepare to be swept away by a wave of electrifying energy. The Carnaval will kick off with a grand parade featuring an array of dazzling costumes, intricate floats, and mesmerizing dance performances that pay homage to both African and Caribbean folklore and contemporary arts. The rhythmic drum beats and soulful melodies from live bands will set the tempo for a day filled with dance, music, and joy.
